Early Transfer Round-Up

The 2024/25 football season is coming to an end, and transfer rumours are inevitably beginning to ramp up. The Club World Cup also starts soon so some clubs will want to get a player or two in before the tournament starts, with a special transfer window opening up between June 1 - June 10. There are still some permutations which have to play out as European football hasn't been sorted out yet but it's sure to be yet another busy transfer window across Europe.

The most significant transfer news of this week was that Real Madrid have reportedly activated Dean Huijsen's £50 million release clause and are currently negotiated on personal terms of the 20 year old. The Bournemouth defender has been really impressive this season after signing from Juventus last summer. His performances have meant that a number of big clubs are interested in securing his signature for next season, including the likes of Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea but Real Madrid have made their move and a deal is likely to be completed within the coming days. Madrid have moved early in an effort to get Huijsen through the door before the start of the Club World Cup this summer. There are also reports that the Spanish giants could offer Liverpool some kind of fee to get Trent Alexander-Arnold into their team for the CWC too. Some may say that the move has come to early in Huijsen's career but his "chill guy" demeanour makes it seem that he would thrive under the pressure of playing for the world's biggest club.

Other news this week focused on Liverpool advancing with a move to sign Bayer Leverkusen's, Jeremie Frimpong. Frimpong has a €35 million release clause and will likely be coming in to replace the departing TAA. The Dutchman has been an integral part of Leverkusen's success under Xabi Alonso and is best know for his attacking traits which have helped him contribute 26 GA over the past couple of seasons. Whilst Frimpong's attacking attributes are clear for all to see, he is defensively susceptible like TAA. Playing as a right wing-back, he often doesn't have to defend in the same way a conventional right-back would. Liverpool also reportedly met with Florian Wirtz this week as the German star weighs up his options ahead of the summer transfer window. Bayern Munich have been favourites to sign Wirtz but this week, reports have come out that he has spoken to Manchester City as well as Liverpool and is still undecided as to where he'll be playing next season.

As the clubs playing in next season's Champions League is yet to be fully decided, transfer rumours are likely to ramp up in the next couple of weeks. The added bonus of a mini-window before the CWC will likely prompt a flurry of activity as competing teams try to bolster their squads to give them the best chance of winning the tournament and its estimated £97 million prize.
