Liverpool's Transfer Spree

Liverpool's Transfer Spree

Having won the Premier League last season, Liverpool have already made a massive statement this summer by spending over £200 million already. They've brought in Jeremie Frimpong, Florian Wirtz and Milos Kerkez and are still looking to conduct more business. The likes of Jarrell Quansah and Darwin Nuñez are also likely to be sold, so Liverpool will be on the look out for a centre back and striker too.

Liverpool's biggest deal is obviously the British record move for Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen. Wirtz has built up his reputation as a wonder-kid in the Bundesliga over the past couple of seasons, contributing to 21 goals and 23 assists. The German was in high demand, with Bayern Munich and Manchester City also trying to secure his signature but in the end, the player chose Liverpool. So where would Wirtz fit in this Liverpool side? Wirtz could play from an attacking midfield position or off the left and has the ability to play off both feet which makes it harder for opponents to read what he is going to do. He also attempted the 4th most dribbles and created the 5th most chances in the top 5 leagues. Wirtz's all round game make him a perfect fit for Liverpool and his flexibility is a further advantage as he can make his quality shine from a number of areas on the pitch.

Liverpool have also signed Milos Kerkez from Bournemouth for around £40 million this week. Kerkez will be a massive upgrade on the aging Andy Robertson and judging by his performances last season, the Hungarian will fit right into Liverpool's first team. Kerkez's athletic prowess is a key attribute which will have made Liverpool sign him. The left-back ranked amongst the top 5 players in the league last season for sprints completed and this energy will be key in making piercing runs on the left hand side on multiple occasions during a game. Kerkez's goal contributions were up as well last season, having scored 2 goals and assisting 5 times, and it's expected that his numbers will increase again just by being in a better team.

Liverpool also have made some good progress on sales. They've agreed a £30 million fee with Bayer Leverkusen for Jarrell Quansah. They're also in talks with Napoli over a transfer for Darwin Nuñez and it has been reported that he could go for around £40 -45 million. Both these deals show Liverpool are just as good at signing players as they are at selling players. There could be further departures too with the likes of Harvey Elliot and Kostas Tsimikas wanted to play more first team football, and with Liverpool's record of getting good money out of their sales, there will be a sufficient amount added to their transfer budget. With this income, the Reds could go and splash the cash on a striker. Hugo Ekitiké and Alexander Isak have been linked recently, with the latter rumoured to cost upwards of £150 million. If they were to agree a deal for Isak, they would be overwhelming favourites to retain the Premier League title next season and would take some stopping!
