Mo Salah: Where does he rank amongst the PL Greats?

Liverpool are undoubtedly the best football team in the world right now and Mo Salah's form this season has been crucial to the Reds' success so far. The "Egyptian King" has put up some quite astonishing numbers in previous seasons at Liverpool but his output this season has been nearly unimaginable. Having already recorded 20 goals and 17 assists in 26 games across all competitions for Liverpool, Salah is on his way to having one of the all-time great seasons for a Premier League player but where does he rank amongst the all-time Premier League greats?

In every game week this season, it feels like Mo Salah has made an outstanding contribution to helping Liverpool reach the position they are in at the moment. Salah tops both the Golden Boot and Assists tables in the Premier League and deservedly won the Player of the Month award for November. This start to this season has been so spectacular that Salah has been breaking records left, right and centre. For example, he became the first player to break double digit goals and assists before Christmas and overtook Wayne Rooney in reaching double digit goals and assists for the 6th season in the Premier League. Along with these records, there are many more that Salah will be able to break in the coming months including winning the Golden Boot for the 4th time (something only Thierry Henry has managed in PL history) and can move to 5th in the all time list for players with the most goal involvements.

As mentioned before, this season has the makings of one of the all-time great seasons for a PL player. Across the duration of the PL, there have been a number of astonishing individual performances by single players in the attacking positions. In fact, Mo Salah has already recorded one of these great seasons in 2017/18 when he got 32 goals and 10 assists in his first season at Liverpool. Another one of the great individual seasons was produced by one of the GOATs of world football, Cristiano Ronaldo, in the 2007/08 season at Manchester United. In this season, Ronaldo scored 31 goals and got 7 assists in the PL which saw him earn his first ever Ballon D'Or award and is the last PL player to have won the award before Rodri won it last year. One of Mo Salah's individual goals for his career would undoubtedly be to win the Ballon D'Or and with the current performances of players around the world, there is an excellent opportunity for Salah to win the award if he continues to produce such blistering performances.

In terms of Mo Salah's importance to Liverpool, we can say that he is their most important player currently because it looks as though almost all there attacking output has come from him so far this season. In fact, Salah has contributed to two-thirds of Liverpool's goals in the PL season. So with Salah out of contract in the summer, Liverpool have a little problem. Across multiple points this season, Salah has cut a frustrated figure that his contract situation has not yet been resolved. Liverpool's owners should be doing everything within their power to find a way to tie Salah down as it seems that he's showing no signs of slowing down yet.

Salah is definitely one of the GOATs of the PL era and can only be behind the likes of Thierry Henry, Wayne Rooney and Alan Shearer. He is already a Liverpool legend and could be on the way to cemented his place alongside the likes of Sir Kenny Dalglish, Ian Rush and Steven Gerrard in the pantheon of Liverpool Football Club.
