Newcastle's Nightmare Summer

It has been a summer of major upheaval for Newcastle United, with major players leaving, others pushing to leave and now their manager wanting to step down. It was reported earlier this morning that Eddie Howe has had a change in heart, and that he wants to take a break. This news did come out of nowhere but then again it was not totally surprising given Newcastle's form last season. So where do the club go from here?

Anthony Gordon and Sandro Tonali have already left St. James' Park for mega money and Bruno Guimaraes is looking to follow in their stead amid interest from Arsenal. With the player departures, fans were already in meltdown as they felt that the project their new owners promised wasn't being delivered. This summer has also been a reality check for those Newcastle fans who believed that their new owners would bring about the success seen by Chelsea and Manchester City when Abramovich and Sheikh Mansour came in respectively. The top players aren't going to stay at Newcastle United, and that's simply a fact that their fans have to accept.

Adding to their despair, is a change of manager in the middle of summer. With Howe on the way out, Newcastle are reportedly in for Matthias Jaissle from Al-Ahli as a replacement. Jaissle worked at RB Salzburg before being at Al-Ahli and during his time in Austria, he won the Austrian Bundesliga twice and the Austrian Cup once. The German has also been successful at Al-Ahli, leading the Saudi club to successive Asian Champions League titles in 2025 and 2026. He obviously has a lot of potential but fans will be understandably skeptical on whether he will be able to translate that success to the Premier League!
